Product Processing & Food Sorting
NIFB acquires donated food from a variety of retailers, manufacturers,
corporations, and community resources and distributes it through its network of
more than 520 nonprofit food assistance sites to help hungry neighbors living in poverty in 13 northern Illinois counties. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to work on a variety of projects, including sorting, evaluating, cleaning, and packaging donated food prior to distribution. Volunteers who are able to lift between 15-30lbs. are welcome. However, heavy lifting is not a requirement. The sorting shifts at NIFB's St. Charles location for food sorting shifts are listed below:

Monday - Thursday mornings: 9:00 am - noon -
Tuesday & Thursday afternoons: 1:00 pm
- 4:00 pm -
Tuesday evenings - first & third of every month: 6:00 pm
- 9:00 pm -
Thursday evenings - second & fourth of every month: 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm -
Saturday mornings
* Note for Volunteer Groups: Other days and times may be available depending on the size of your group
NIFB is capable of accommodating individual volunteers and groups of up to 100 people. Many companies and organizations find volunteering at NIFB an excellent team-building experience. For planning purposes, volunteers must sign up in advance by contacting NIFB at 630.443.6910.
