Seasonal and Other Volunteer Needs:

Holiday Meal Boxes
During the holidays (October through December), we have many volunteer groups working on packaging our annual Holiday Meal Boxes. Your group may be assigned to such a task. This task includes working on an assembly line to first package all dry ingredients into the boxes - canned goods such as green beans, corn, and cranberry sauce, as well as, stuffing mix, gravy, dessert, and coffee. The second part of the process is to add a 12-14 lb. frozen turkey to complete the box. Depending on the HMB delivery schedule, you may be asked to do one or both of those steps. Holiday Food Drive Assistance
Reliable drivers and assistants are needed for the holiday months of November, December and January to pick-up food from food drive sites in our 13-county service area. Duties include driving our company van to pick up food and other donated items, helping with map routing, and some lifting. Volunteers are needed weekdays from 8:00 am-3:00 pm. Prefer volunteers who are available semi-regularly. For more information about becoming a holiday season driver or assistant please contact the Lake County Branch at 847.336.3663. 

Speakers Committee
Tell others about hunger in northern Illinois. Speak at service clubs, churches, civic organizations and other community events sharing general information about Northern Illinois Food Bank. Assist a staff member at mission and community service fairs. Help increase hunger awareness and tell others how they can get involved with NIFB. Ongoing opportunities are available. The Lake County Branch of NIFB can accommodate individual volunteers and groups of up to 25 people. Many companies and organizations find volunteering at NIFB an excellent team-building experience. For planning purposes, volunteers must sign up in advance by contacting NIFB at 847.336.3663.
