For one little boy, all he wanted for his birthday was a cake. Standing in line at the Mobile Pantry he asked his mom if they would have a cake for him. With sadness in her eyes she said she hoped they would.  That day his wish was granted and there was a birthday cake at the Mobile Pantry. Tears swelled up in the mother’s eyes as she repeatedly thanked the Northern Illinois Food Bank employee.
 

Our basic needs of food, water and security are all closely related. When we have the security of food, we also have the security of hope. It is difficult to feel hopeful on an empty stomach.  Northern Illinois Food Bank offers more than just good nutrition and food security, they offer dignity to those who are struggling. Something as simple as a cake on a child’s birthday, healthy protein for senior citizens, or the security of being able to feed your family each and every day, can be the difference between hopefulness or hopelessness.
