I asked you to help me start a movement to end hunger in 2002. I still need your help.
Progress has been made over the past three years as the members and leadership of America’s Second Harvest—the nation’s food bank network, have been successful in enlisting the support of organizations across this great nation that include:
Bread for the World
Center on Budget and Policy
Center on Hunger and Poverty
Community Food Security Coalition
Congressional Hunger Center
Food Research and Action Center
MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger
Share Our Strength
Together we form a National Anti-Hunger Organization, and together we have authored a “Blueprint to End Hunger.” You may access this plan on-line at www.hungerday.org. You will find it informative, revealing and challenging.
I urge you to take the challenge to get involved to make a difference in your community by getting in touch with me at Northern Illinois Food Bank and joining our movement.
This movement is about ending hunger amongst all our neighbors, whether they are seniors, children, or families. We have the resources within our communities and nation to achieve victory over a foe as simple as hunger. I know this horrible disease is curable because we have the treatment: food. Do you have the resolve?
Starting a movement takes one or two people. Building a movement requires many more. Share your commitment to help end hunger with your neighbors and get them involved. Most of all, please let me know I can count on you.
